Besides the main forum, COMI has also co-organized two high level academic workshops. On November 4th, the 2nd International Workshop on Marine Disaster Prevention and Mitigation was held in Wyndham Grand, Xiamen, Haicang. This workshop was co-sponsored by Fujian Provincial Department of Ocean and Fisheries and the Center of China-ASEAN Marine Cooperation, and co-organized by COMI and the Taiwan Strait Marine Forecasting Center. This forum mainly focused on cooperation between countries along the ?1st Century Maritime Silk Road?and China. This forum included two sessions, namely Marine Disaster Forecasting, Prevention and Response, and Marine Disaster Prevention and Mitigation in a Changing Climate. Scholars from Bangladesh, Cambodia, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Philippines and Sri Lanka as well as professionals from USA and China present the contemporary issues and developments, adaptive strategies to climate change, and marine disaster prevention and mitigation. Government officials shared their opinions on exploring the potential in deepening future international cooperation in natural disaster prevention and mitigation between China and countries along the ?1st Century Maritime Silk Road? More than 90 professionals, scholars, students and media reporters were attracted to attend the workshop.
