This workshop consists of two sessions, namely marine disaster prevention and response and marine disaster forecasting. Mr. Touch Seang Tana, member of the Economics, Social and Cultural Council, Office of the Council of Ministers, Kingdom of Cambodia, chaired the first session. While the speakers in this session shared management status and advanced experience of Cambodia, Malaysia, Australia, Vietnam and other countries and regions in marine disaster prevention and response. Prof. Fakhru’l-Razi, professor of Department of Civil Engineering, National Defense University of Malaysia, chaired the second session, and the speakers made a detailed introduction of marine observation and forecasting system, ocean monitoring network and early warning system in mainland China and Taiwan, and emphasized the importance of marine forecasting information sharing and regional cooperation. In the panel discussion part, all the speakers and participants have had an in-depth communication and discussion on the application of simulation model and database in marine disaster prevention and mitigation, multi-disciplinary support in definition of the main cause of marine disasters, the construction of transboundary coordination mechanism of marine disaster prevention and mitigation in China and ASEAN countries, the potential cooperation opportunities between China and ASEAN countries on marine disaster prevention and mitigation in the future etc. In order to jointly tackle marine disasters caused by climate change and human activities, all the speakers and participants unanimously agreed to continue to establish a platform for cooperation between China and ASEAN countries on marine disaster prevention and mitigation.
