Chinese Government Scholarship-University Postgraduate Scholarship programme (Application time: Feb. 1 to March 31, 2014)

1. Introduction
The “Chinese Government Scholarship -- University Postgraduate Programme”, a full scholarship set up by the Ministry of Education of China (MOE) in 2008, is aimed at promoting Chinese higher education brand on an international basis. Enrolment is managed directly by China’s key universities. As a key comprehensive university, Xiamen University undertakes the enrolment of international postgraduates under this government scholarship.
 
2. Eligibility
(1) Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens in good health.
(2) Applicants should meet one of the following eligibility requirements:
Applicants must not be students in Chinese universities at the time of application(or at least one year after graduation in China).
Applicants with their last degree to be obtained in China wish to carry out their master s or doctoral studies in China.
(3) Education background and age limit:
· Applicants for masters degree studies must have a bachelors degree and be under the age of 35.
· Applicants for doctoral degree studies must have a masters degree and be under the age of 40.

Applicants for Chinese-medium programmes are required to take one year Chinese language course prior to the academic study if their Chinese is not qualified. Only by passing the required HSK test after the Chinese language course could they start their major studies.

5. Scholarship details
Exemption from tuition fee, laboratory experiment fee, internship fee, fee for basic learning materials and accommodation on campus;
Living allowance: RMB 1,700/month/person for masters students; RMB 2,000 /month /person for doctoral students;
One-off settlement subsidy: RMB 1, 500/person after registration;
Out-patient medical services together with comprehensive medical insurance;
International travel expenses: self-afforded.

7. Application procedures
Applicants are eligible for scholarship assessment only after they are admitted to the masters or doctoral programme of Xiamen University. (The prospectus for master’s programmes / doctoral programmes 2014 is available at http://admissions.xmu.edu.cn. )
Applicants shall make online application at http://laihua.csc.edu.cn (Agency No. of Xiamen University at CSC: 10384) and download and print out the Application Form for Chinese Government Scholarship  and then sign the form.
Applicants are required to make another online application at http://admissions.xmu.edu.cn/application and then download and print out the Application Form for International Students generated upon successful online application.
Submission of application documents:

8. Selection and notification
Applicants will be given priority consideration if they graduate from world-renowned universities, sister universities or are recommended by senior professors or experts. A panel of experts at XMU will screen candidates for the scholarship and submit a list of nominees to university authorities for approval. Scholarship decisions will be made on the basis of the applicants’ application documents, academic performance, overall merits, research achievements and supervisors’ comments. The final list of nominees will be submitted to China Scholarship Council for final approval.
The result will be published on the website of the Admissions Office (http://admissions.xmu.edu.cn) in Mid-June 2014. Scholarship awardees will be notified via email and their Admission Notice and Visa Application Form (JW201) will be sent out as soon as possible.
