Prof. Xiongzhi Xue made a brief introduction of COMI for the guests, including the missions of COMI, the Marine Affairs program as well as the ongoing cooperation with University of the Philippines and Partnerships in Environmental Management for the Seas of East Asia (PEMSEA), and expressed the interest in further cooperation with universities and organizations in the Philippines on capacity building activities in the field of sustainable ocean and coastal management, including degree and non-degree programs. Mr. Calonge commented that Xiamen University was the first university he visited for his trip to China, and he was very impressed by the achievements that Xiamen University has made so far. Mr. Calonge also said that he would love to see more academic cooperation and communication on marine affairs with Xiamen University in the future and would stay connected. The delegation had a campus tour after the meeting.
