Two Lectures by Prof. Gunnar: On Ocean Governance with ICM

Nov 15, 2009

Comprehensive human security is understood as prevention of armed conflict and fulfillment of basic human needs that is considered to be met by the ocean assets and services, including food production, freshwater availability, energy production, coastal zone and EEZ resources and ecosystem services, as well as the possibilities of making forecasts of wave conditions and typhoon developments, and seasonal and inter-annual climate-related variability by means of ocean observations. Such observations and related services are directly coupled to good ocean governance. The need for ocean governance including ICM is thus brought out, together with the socio-economic returns and benefits.
