Lecture on Bill of Lading and Hague-Visby Rules by Dr. Owen Tang

Dec 17, 2009

Bill of Lading plays a key role in the carriage of goods by sea, which is issued by a carrier to a shipper, acknowledging receipt of the goods being shipped, proof of possessing the goods and evidence of contract. On the beginning of the lecture, Dr. Owen Tang took two vivid examples of buying a bottled water in domestic store and international transaction to import rabbit meat from Australia to China to illustrate the importance of Bill of Lading. With further analyzing three court cases in 1912 of E. Clemens Horst Co. v. Biddell Brothers, 1883 of Sanders Brothers v. Maclean & Co. and 1950 of Sanders Brothers v. Maclean & Co., Dr. Owen Tang helped students to gain more understanding of the applying of Bill of Lading in the tort.
