Dr. Hong obtained her PhD in Oceanography from the Graduate School of Oceanography, University of Rhode Island, USA in 1984. Currently she is a Professor of College of Oceanography and Environmental Science, Xiamen University; Honorary Director of State Key laboratory of Marine Environmental Science (Xiamen University); and Chief Professor of Coastal and Ocean Management Institute of Xiamen University. She also serves as the Vice Chair of the International Scientific Committee on Oceanic Research (SCOR) (2007- ) and Chair of SCOR-China (2000- ).
Prof. Hong’s research interests focus on marine biogeochemistry of biogenic elements and trace organic pollutants. Studies related to the utilization and protection of marine environment such as productivity of the marine ecosystem and its response to global change; the scientific and technological basis for the ocean and coastal sustainable development.
