Dr. Tavis Potts Visited COMI on November 24 - 28, 2014

Dr. Tavis Potts, senior lecturer in the Department of Geography and Environment, University of Aberdeen, Scotland visited COMI from Nov. 23rd to 28th as invited by Dr. FANG Qinhua. During Dr. Potts’s visit, he delivered a lecture on the topic of The Emergency of Coastal Law Carbon Economics-Case Studies from Europe for COMI faculty and students. Dr. Potts introduced the concepts and implications of coastal low carbon economy and its relevant policy and law in Europe. Dr. Potts particularly introduced marine spatial planning, ecosystem services issues for low carbon economy development in Scotland. He also had a field visit on Integrated Coastal Management demonstration sites of Xiamen. Besides, Dr. Potts also joined the regular working meeting for Dr. Fang’s students and provided his advices for MMA students for their thesis proposal and working plan. Dr. Potts and Dr. Fang changed ideas on students exchange between our two programs and discussed the opportunities for joint proposal of research programs. A wider and stronger cooperation in the future was expected.
